Josh was introduced to the culinary world unexpectedly when, after getting married in Kansas City, his wife Abbey-Jo expressed an interest in going to culinary school. He soon followed, and they moved to Arizona and enrolled in the Le Cordon Bleu program at Scottsdale Culinary Institute.

After completing their education and graduating with honors, they moved to St. Simons Island, Georgia to work at the five-star resort The Lodge, within the Sea Island Company.

While there, Josh inquired about and received a coveted position with Guenter Seeger at Seeger’s restaurant in Atlanta, one of only 16 five-star restaurants in the entire country at the time. Josh excelled in this unique environment, and was quickly promoted to chef de partie after only three months, instead of the two year time period previously agreed upon.

After having a son (Elliot) in Atlanta, Josh and Abbey-Jo moved back to Kansas City to be closer to family and to friends. Josh took a position with Debbie Gold and Michael Smith at 40 Sardines – eventually learning all of the stations in four months time.

While there, Josh happened to meet Ernesto Peralta and Jenifer Price, with whom he would go to work with to open up the Drop Bar and Bistro in Martini Corner. Josh created the inventive bruschetta menu that the Drop is so well known for. While under his control, the Drop gained numerous culinary accolades from many different publications and foodies, including 3 stars from the Kansas City Star and a mention in Food and Wine magazine. All of this lead to Josh being named “Chef of the Year” in 2007 by the Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association.

In March of 2008 the team opened up blanc burgers + bottles in Westport. Josh is the force behind all aspects of food creation and production, writing a creative menu of burgers, hand cut fries, and house made condiments. Blanc has been a hit from the start.

February of 2009 saw the second location of blanc open up at Mission Farms in Leawood, Kansas. It has been hugely successful, and Josh looks forward to continue to grow the concept and the company along with his partners.
